About

Welcome to my blog. I am a legal academic and have, over the years, held posts at the Universities of Leeds and Bradford, Leeds Beckett University and Birmingham City University. Currently I am the Head of Law at Leeds Trinity University. My research interests are varied but all in some way linked to legal education, questions of identity, academic careers and mobility or equality or in some cases all of them. So expect posts of that nature with a good measure of randomness included.

I have, over the course of my career so far, taught all sorts of stuff from English Legal System to EU Law to Legal Skills to Employment Law and more quirky options like Law and Society. As I progressed in my career I have spent less time in the class room but I really don’t think I would ever want a post where I would have to stop teaching completely. It’s my sanity check, my link to why I do what I do and a place where I probably learn more than I teach.

My varied research interests have seen me study highly skilled mobility within the EU, the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights, gender equality in promotions in the HE sector, internationalisation of legal education and the nature of good teaching. I have also written about my experiences of becoming a law lecturer as well as my experiences in middle management as well as about legal pedagogy, legal education reform and a bunch of other stuff

I have held various roles externally.  I was the Chair of the Association of Law Teachers a few years ago and have been on the Committee for a very long time. I am treasurer (for the second time) as of April 2024. I have also been the Deputy Editor of the Law Teacher: The International Journal of Legal Education and then General Editor with my term ending with Issue 2 of 2024 when I move into a Consultant Editor role. I am also the Co-Convenor for the Society of Legal Scholars Legal Education Subject Section and sit on their Legal Education sub-committee.

Details of my roles, publications and academic presentations are listed in my CV – email me if you would like a copy or check out my Profile here.
