100 Days of Wonder – #48
I’m sticking with the moon theme. This time from January 2023 though. This particular evening was special. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary with dinner at the California Grill at the top of the Contemporary and after having watched the fireworks from the balcony there we finished our meal and then strolled through the hotel grounds and out onto the jetty on Bay Lake. It was a clear and cool night and it felt like there was magic and pixie dust in the air. The moon was bright and its light reflecting on the lake a perfect silver. I remember standing at the edge of the lake looking back at the hotel and thinking that this is what happiness feels like. But it felt like more than happy because happiness seemed to fleeting an emotion, this felt more permanent, settled and real. Everything was just as it should be. Those moments of complete clarity and knowing that you are right where you are meant to be in this universe are rare and the feeling hard to hang on to and that’s why I love this photo – it takes me back to that moment and that feeling.

I don’t really need to write anything to go with this photo. The moon on the 14th November 2016 from the hotel window looking out towards Disneyland. For me it holds a calmness that is both joyful and reassuring and it feels like that’s what we all need to hang on to right now

100 Days of Wonder – #46

As I am currently in a hotel (quite a nice one with a big room and comfy bed), I am inevitably thinking about some of my favourite hotels.
Well. Will you look at this back wall above the headboard! This was our room at Disneyland in 2016. Not only was the picture brilliantly done, not only did it light up but you could also flick a switch and it would play you a music box version of ‘A Dream is a Wish your heart makes’. I still find joy in watching a video of it every now and again. The detail, the effort to create something magical and memorable and the commitment to making something as mundane as a hotel room special, not just comfortable and functional but also joyful… makes me smile!
