100 Days of Wonder – #54
Nothing profound or meaningful to say about this photo. I just like it as a fun effect and because it looks a bit silly. It made me smile as I scrolled so I thought I’d share.

We watched Deadpool and Wolverine last night. It is gloriously ridiculous and I love the fact that it just doesn’t take itself in any way seriously. I have struggled a little over the last week or so in particular to remember the silliness of life and I have taken things a bit too seriously. I was scrolling through Disney pictures to find something that encapsulate fun and silliness and not taking things too seriously and there are of course all of the shots with characters and things that show some of that. Mostly though it is the magic shots that capture it best. This one makes me laugh because Kath seems to have decided that Tinkerbell is the cutest thing on the planet and I am more in WTF nervous laugh territory. Of course when the photo was taken neither of us knew what the magic shot was. You can find out what shots are available where but somehow it adds to the magic when you don’t know and just roll with it. But taking yourself seriously definitely doesn’t work in this context. This is a timely reminder for me to be more magic shot and less instagram pout as the mad world of work, academia and life carries on around me.

I’m sticking with the moon theme. This time from January 2023 though. This particular evening was special. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary with dinner at the California Grill at the top of the Contemporary and after having watched the fireworks from the balcony there we finished our meal and then strolled through the hotel grounds and out onto the jetty on Bay Lake. It was a clear and cool night and it felt like there was magic and pixie dust in the air. The moon was bright and its light reflecting on the lake a perfect silver. I remember standing at the edge of the lake looking back at the hotel and thinking that this is what happiness feels like. But it felt like more than happy because happiness seemed to fleeting an emotion, this felt more permanent, settled and real. Everything was just as it should be. Those moments of complete clarity and knowing that you are right where you are meant to be in this universe are rare and the feeling hard to hang on to and that’s why I love this photo – it takes me back to that moment and that feeling.
